Naltrexone®

Daily oral pill

Ozempic (generic name: Semaglutide) is a GLP-1 agonist FDA approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Naltrexone (brand name: Vivitrol or Revia) is FDA approved to help prevent relapses into alcohol or drug abuse. However, its off-label use has shown effectiveness with weight loss.

How does

work:

  • may act on reward system in the brain to promote satiety and reduce compulsive eating

Common side effects of

Naltrexone®

  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhea
  • anxiety, restlessness
  • trouble sleeping
  • headache
  • joint or muscle pain
  • unusual tiredness
  • nausea or vomiting

Expected Results: 

  • Coupled with bupropion, patients lost on average 5% of their body weight after 12 weeks

Do not take

Naltrexone®

if you:

  • have a history of seizures (if taking Naltrexone/Bupropion) 
  • have a history of opioid dependence
  • are taking any opioids or opiate drugs
  • recently stopped taking opioids (in opioid withdrawal)
  • are allergic to naltrexone or any of its ingredients
  • are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding
